Delta State Signs MoU With REA, Oborevwori Pledges Commitment to Renewable Energy

Delta State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to drive renewable energy investments across the state

Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori , speaking at the REA’s State-by-State Roundtable Engagement in Abuja on Wednesday, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to leveraging renewable energy for industrial growth, rural development, and inclusive economic opportunities.

He highlighted Delta’s Decentralized Energy Plan, which targets powering key state institutions and extending electricity to rural communities and schools. Oborevwori assured investors of a friendly business environment, pledging transparency and collaboration to scale up solar, wind, hydro, and biomass solutions.

REA Managing Director, Abba Aliyu, commended Delta for domesticating the Electrification Act 2023 and positioning itself for private-sector-led energy growth. He disclosed that $1.16 billion has been set aside for renewable energy nationwide, urging investors to channel projects to Delta.

Executive Director of the Rural Electrification Fund, Engr. Doris Uboh, noted that bridging electricity gaps in the state could unlock over 31,200 jobs and attract $158 million in private investments.

The event ended with the signing of an MoU between REA, RESCOs, and the Delta State Government.
